Outreach / DISTANCE EDUCATION, WORLD CAMPUS

The College of Communications has become actively involved in providing education through Penn State's World Campus. One of the College's first initiatives was developing COMM 260W (Newswriting and Reporting) as an Independent Learning course.

Since then, the College has developed a web-based communications studies certificate, which centers on five courses: COMM 100 (Mass Media and Society), COMM 401 (Media in History), COMM 403 (Mass Communications Law), COMM 409 (News Media Ethics), and COMM 413 (Media and the Public). The primary audience for the certificate is students at locations other than University Park, although anyone is free to sign up. Other courses developed for the World Campus are COMM 261 and 508, both titled The Literature of Journalism.
