College Adds Jonathan Thurley
as Assistant Director of Development
A development professional from private industry
has joined the College of Communications as its assistant director
of development.
Jonathan Thurley started with Penn State on May
1. He formerly worked as a sales consultant for Curtis 1000. In
that position, Thurley worked with colleges and non-profit institutions
throughout central Pennsylvania and beyond on alumni fundraising
and development campaigns.
“It’s an honor to join the Penn State
family, and the College of Communications in particular,”
Thurley said. “Our alumni and students have distinguished
themselves with their accomplishments and their talents. I look
forward to meeting more of them every day.”
In his role with the College, Thurley’s duties
include include: identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gift
prospects as well as stewardship activities.
Along with his development and fundraising background,
Thurley’s varied experience includes work as a regional account
manager for a health-care company and military service.
He was a corporal and squad/team leader for the
3rd Infantry Division and was selected to the Army’s elite
ceremonial unit, “The Old Guard,” that performed numerous
ceremonial missions throughout the United States. He graduated first
in his class from the Platoon Leadership Development Course.
Thurley’s wife, Debra serves as an academic
adviser/recruiter in the College of Communications. They have one
child, a 2-year-old son, Graham.
A former assistant varsity soccer coach at his
alma mater, Western New England College, Thurley volunteers as a
coach in recreational leagues organized by Centre Soccer Association.
