Current Research
Public Understanding of the Risk of Terrorism. This project monitors the American public’s perceptions of the threat of bio-terrorism and public evaluations of news coverage of the risk of terrorism and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Advisory System. Ann Major, Project Director.

Communicating in a Multimedia World: A Comparative Trend Analysis of New Media Use in Germany and the US. This comparative research project is being conducted in partnership with the University of Leipzig and examines the influence of new media on society. Dennis Davis, Project Director.

News Media, News Media Indians, and American Indians--A Ten-Year Study of American Indian News Reports from the CBS, NBC, and ABC. This research project examines every television news report about American Indians from the "Big Three" evening news broadcasts. The project compares the news coverage and stereotyping of Indian country from the past ten years with coverage during the previous decade. John Sanchez, Project Director.

News Media Framing of Politics. This project examines the ways in which voters' individual differences moderate the impact and influence of newes media framing of political issues and campaigns. Fuyuan Shen, Project Director.

People and Information Technology in the Supply Chain: Social and Organizational Influences on Adoption. This project is an interdisciplinary partnership with the Center for Supply Chain Research in Penn State's Smeal College of Business where Dr. Anne Hoag serves as a faculty affiliate. Anne Hoag and Dawn Russell, Project Co-Directors.

Business-to-Business Online Trading: Implications for Media Buying and the Advertising Industry. This research project examines online trading relationships. Anne Hoag, Project Director.

Evaluating the Effectiveness of a Social Norming Campaign on College Students' Perceptions of Risk Associated with Excessive Drinking Patterns. This research project is part of graduate student research project for a master's of arts degree in media studies. Lindsey Polonec, Project Director.

Communicating Health Concepts to College Students. A project in partnership with the Penn State University Health Services' Office of Health Promotion and Education, the project focus includes surveys and evaluation of ongoing tobacco cessation, nutrition, exercise, diversity, and mental health programs targeted at university students.
