To apply for a graduate assistantship, please download this document.
Once you have completed the Graduate School application
process, follow the instructions below.

- One copy of the Graduate School application,
if you did not file electronically.
- A $45 non-refundable application fee (Applications
without fees cannot be processed).
Please make checks or money orders payable to The
Pennsylvania State University. International money orders or a check
must be drawn on a U.S. bank. Cancelled check serves as your receipt.
Credit cards cannot be processed with the PDF downloadable graduate
school application form.
DO NOT SEND CASH.
Please attach generated Fee Form if you filed your application electronically
and you did not pay by
credit card.

Master's Degree Programs
- One copy of the Graduate School application,
if you did not file electronically.
- Two official transcripts of the applicant's
undergraduate and graduate record (if applicable). Transcripts
not in English must be accompanied by a certified translation.
- Graduate Record Exam score. (The College of Communications
requires applicants to take the Analytical Writing portion of
the GRE exam.) Institution code: 2660. Department
code: 4503.
- An essay of approximately 1,000 words indicating
the purpose and intent of undertaking graduate study.
- TOEFL scores (for international students only).
- Application
for Visa Document (International Students Only).
- Three letters of recommendation in sealed envelopes,
mailed by the referee. The College does not provide or require
a form, just letters of recommendation from persons selected by
the prospective student.
- A writing sample.
Ph.D. Programs
- One copy of the Graduate School application,
if you did not file electronically. In most cases, applicants
to the mass communications doctoral program who have a completed
M.A. are given admissions preference over those who do not hold
that degree or demonstrate equivalent graduate-level experience.
- Two official transcripts of the applicant's
undergraduate and graduate record. Transcripts not in English
must be accompanied by a certified translation.
- Graduate Record Exam score. (The College of
Communications requires applicants to take the Analytical Writing
