Matt McAllister

Ph.D.: University of Illinois

Matt McAllister joined the College of Communications at Penn State in Fall 2004 after spending 13 years at Virginia Tech.  

His research interests include advertising criticism, popular culture, and the political economy of the mass media. He is the author of The Commercialization of American Culture: New Advertising, Control and Democracy (1996, Sage), and the co-editor of Comics and Ideology (2001, Peter Lang). He has also published in such journals as Critical Studies in Media Communication, Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, and Journal of Communication

While a faculty member at Virginia Tech, he received a Certificate of Teaching Excellence from the College of Arts and Sciences in 1995, and was the 2001 recipient of the University Sporn Award for Excellence in Teaching Introductory Classes.
