Michael Elavsky

An award-winning scholar and respected teacher, Michael Elavsky brings an extensive background of teaching, research and service to his position within the College of Communications.

His research and teaching interests include: media studies; ethnomusicology; postsocialism; international studies; politics of globalization and representation; cultural studies; popular culture; and music. His research has been publishd in Cultural Studies and Studies in Symbolic Interaction: A Research Annual.

As an instructor, he has taught numerous classes, among them: introduction to mass media; social and cultural foundations of the mass media; communication studies; American history; and American writing.

In 2004, he was on the University of Illinois list of teachers rated as excellent (top 10 percent of student evaluations). In 2002-2003, he was named a Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Scholar.
